Paving the way to a greener environment

DURAGRID SUB-SURFACE PAVING TECHNOLOGY

enhancing the environment

DURAGRID provides architects and developer with a grassed alternative to unsightly concrete and asphalt pavements. Offering a solution that is practical, aesthetically-pleasing and environmentally-friendly, DURAGRID allows the creation of stabilised and durable lush lawns which add to the quality and beauty of the environment.

What is DURAGRID?

DURAGRID is a lightweight, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) grid structure specially designed to stabilise and support turf, grass or decorative gravel.

Patented internationally, DURAGRID has a wide range of applications in the landscape, building and construction and environmental remediation industries.

Positioned under the grass surface, DURAGRID loads from pedestrian and vehicular traffic to the base course below, minimising grass and root compaction. In addition, the interconnected cells allow roots to develop with minimal restriction, resulting in a durable and stable grass surface.

Simple and economical to install, DURAGRID is resistant to water, acids, alkalis, extreme temperatures and ultra violet rays. Studs on the underside of the DURAGIRD cells facilitate anchoring to the sub surface, thereby providing increased stability and rigidity.

BENEFITS OF DURAGRID

Approx. 90 % of its root base area can grow unrestricted, allowing turf roots to anchor to the base course below.
The 50 mm high cells, when filled with soil media, enhance vigorous turf root development.
Notches in the cell walls allow grass runners and roots to grow without restriction.
The strong and durable units form a rigid connection when engaged, and are resistant to soil movement or shearing under pressure.
Able to support loads up to 100 t / m². This is in excess to the requirements for modern fire trucks and other utility vehicles.
DURAGRID structure can be nested, halving storage and transportation costs.
Simple and low cost installation due to the lightweight composition and simple interlocking system.
No operator training required.

APPLICATIONS

Emergency and firelane access
Vehicle parking lots in commercial developments, homes, sports complexes, festival grounds, churches, and handicapped spaces
Golf cart paths
Pedestrian walk areas
Street shoulder parking
Racetrack infield and pit areas
Drainage channels
Slope stabilisation and erosion control

COMPARISON OF DURAGRID VS OTHER PAVING SYSTEMS

DURAGRID
PRECAST AND OTHER GRID STRUCTURES
Deeper and larger cell results in better turf development
Cells often become exposed after some time due to poor turf establishment
Interlocking design ensures entire system remains intact
Precast slabs settle unevenly resulting in unsightly and often unsafe conditions
Simple, fast and low-cost installation
Installation of precast concrete is cumbersome, time-consuming and labour intensive
Nesting system saves transportation and storage costs
Bulky and costly to transport and store
Sections are easily cut and re-used elsewhere
Difficult to cut and need to be installed as whole units
Can be easily installed on uneven subgrades, saving cost on surface preparation work
Level subgrades required for installation of precast concrete or rigid plastic structures
Flexible design conforms to natural and contoured earth forms
Rigid construction does not conform to contoured embankments or slope edges
Efficient drainage reduces surface run-off and minimises waterlogging
Concrete slabs are impermeable, resulting in high run-off rates and stagnant pools of water

Easy to assemble

DURAGRID is easy to assemble and no special tools are required.
The product conforms to odd shapes or profiles.
Excess cells may be simply cut, all you need is a fine saw or, for bigger projects a disc-cutter.

Easy to install

Prior to installation, ensure that the area where DURAGRID is to be installed has been calculated.
Excavate and / or level the area.
Where waterlogging is expected, install drainage systems, irrigation systems and utililty lines should also be installed in the subgrade of required.
Lay and compact a sandy gravel road base to provide support for projected weight-bearing loads.
Spread blinding sand over the base course.
Position DURAGRID on the blinding sand.
Spread a recommended sand soil mix for turf establishment to cover the DURAGRID cells.
Apply recommended soil wetting, water retention agents and fertilisers.
Place sprigging or rolled turf above the DURAGRID or hydroseed onto the filled DURAGRID cells.
